Unauthorized use of uniforms or insignia is a crime under Art 179 of the Revised Penal Code and unauthorized wearing of military or police uniforms is as a criminal act under a bill amending Republic Act 493, which regulates the use and production of uniform of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). 

Under House Bill 368, authored by Rep. Raul Del Mar (1st District, Cebu City), violators face a jail term of 10 years and a fine of P20,000.
